How to Start and Stop Vista

I will show Production as the example here. If you are restarting an environment with only one node you only have to run the stopv and startv scripts

Cluster Shutdown Instructions

  1. ssh to root@prd2.vista.nau.edu
  2. run /root/stopv.sh
  3. If this takes more then 5 minutes do the following
  4. cd $VISTA_HOME ; $VISTA_HOME/webct.sh forcestop
  5. ssh to root@prd1.vista.nau.edu
  6. run /root/stopv.sh
  7. If this takes more then 5 minutes do the following
  8. cd $VISTA_HOME ; $VISTA_HOME/webct.sh forcestop
  9. ssh to root@admin2.vista.nau.edu
  10. run /root/stopv.sh
  11. If this takes more then 5 minutes do the following
  12. cd $VISTA_HOME ; $VISTA_HOME/webct.sh forcestop

Note:  prd5 requires user "vista" in order to stop/start this virtual host residing on physical note "prd4".

The following 1 step won't usually be needed since a nightly script takes care of this now.

# After shutdown cleanup the logs by running $VISTA_HOME/webct.sh cleanLogs. This will backup all the logs and move them out of the $VISTA_HOME/logs dir.

Cluster Startup Instructions

  1. ssh to root@admin2.vista.nau.edu
  2. run /root/startv.sh
  3. cd to $VISTA_HOME/logs
  4. run tail -f !WebCTServer.<timestamp>.log
  5. Wait for "AdapterManager [ERROR] ServletContainerAdapter manager not initialized correctly."
  6. ssh to root@prd1.vista.nau.edu
  7. run /root/startv.sh
  8. cd to $VISTA_HOME/logs
  9. run tail -f !WebCTServer.<timestamp>.log
  10. Wait for "************************* WEBCT POST-STARTUP TASKS COMPLETED *************************"
  11. ssh to root@prd2.vista.nau.edu
  12. run /root/startv.sh
  13. cd to $VISTA_HOME/logs
